Although it looks like a simple steel bucket, the Norpro Stainless Steel Compost Keeper is actually useful as well as stylish.  It is designed to fit under the sink but looks equally at home on the countertop.  Its primary use is to hold food scraps in between trips to your outside compost heap or bin (even up to a week!).

If you’ve ever tried storing egg shells, fruit peels, and other waste in any container, you are aware of the quick buildup of particularly foul odors.  The Norpro Stainless Steel Compost Keeper solves this problem with a tight fitting lid (very important) and charcoal filter.  In fact, the filter provides a reported odor-free environment for up to six months except, of course, when you open the top to add material or to dump it into your main composter.

The construction of the Norpro Stainless Steel Compost Keeper is durable and sleek.  It has a sturdy stainless steel handle for easy transport.  The satin surface can be cleaned easily with a warm soap and water mixture.  The total size of the compost keeper is 11” high x 7” wide.

Overall, even though there are less expensive models available, the Norpro Stainless Steel Compost Keeper is far superior to plastic pails and less durable kitchen compost containers.  The large storage capacity, attractive design, and odor eliminating lid all contribute to the Norpro model receiving my highest recommendation for kitchen compost keepers.
